The definition of stress and recovery is influenced by heart rate, respiration rate, heart rate variability, and oxygen consumption. A person’s background information determines the individual levels for different states.
Stress and recovery are identified by heart rate variability. Physical activity is identified when oxygen consumption (VO2) has risen from normal. MET, or metabolic equivalent, expresses stress as a multiple of resting metabolism. 1 MET corresponds to the oxygen consumption of a resting person and is approximately 3.5 ml/kg/min. When oxygen consumption rises above 2 MET from the oxygen consumption level, the analysis begins to interpret different levels of physical activity and no longer differentiates between stress and recovery. Journal entries do not affect status recognition.
